We drove to nearby Echo Valley to look for birds along the dirt road. It was a clear sunny and windy morning at 10-30-11.30am.
Noisy miners were the most active birds.
We saw two stick nests above in a gum tree. They were at much the same height and not far apart, and may have belonged to a currawong or crow, but it is hard to identify this.
A spotted pardalote was heard - pip pip
Also a grey butcherbird which perched not far above us.
A lump high in a gum tree was a sleeping frogmouth.
We heard kookaburras and a whip bird, and saw one or two pale-headed rosellas.
A large brown bird partly obscured in foliage was a pheasant coucal or swamp pheasant. It had a long tail.
A pair of magpie larks flew across and back later.
A dark headed Lewins honey eater gave some pleasure, but generally things were quiet at that time of day.
Others saw a scaly-breasted lorikeet but I missed that one.
