Waterbird Habitat

The Toowoomba Waterbird Habitat was a bicentennial project.
Around 10.30-11 am we heard cockatoos in the trees, saw two types of ducks near the gate with some Eastern Swamphens.

 wood ducks

A large flock of around 100 plumed whistling duck in the distance which rose and wheeled overhead before settling again on the grass a bit further on. They have striking cream plumes on their wings.

A coot feeding on aquatic vegetation in the lake, black with a white bill. These are seen in numbers at Cooby Dam.

A little pied cormorant was diving in the lake, feeding on crayfish. Later we saw it in a casuarina above the water, drying its wings.

A grey butcher bird in the gum tree not far above us, watching us. It is similar to the pied butcher bird but has a different call.
Two large galahs in a gum tree, one with its head in a hole. Was it attending to young while its mate watched over?
Sounds of rainbow lorikeets in a clump of gums - I saw one fly away.
